The most meaningful piece of furniture in my home is actually a device. It's a radio which model was released in the 40's.
My mother gave it as a gift to my grandfather when she earned her first salary. I believe it was a great gift in those days, because the TV only arrived in Brazil in 1960. We had a flourishing "radio era" with really popular soap operas and singers, the artists being stars. I infer football and the news had high audience as well.
This radio symbolises to me the flavor of those years I have studied as a historian - fashion, costumes, politics, mood, morale, promises for the future. In those days there was an effort to highlight - and create - the quintessencial Brazilian traits.
The radio was painted green, because my grandfather was a fan os "Palmeiras", a major football team in São Paulo, which colors are green and white.
