There's this woman living down the street who seems to be really outside the standards. She first called my attention because of the way she dresses all wrapped in scarves. The other reason is her house that looks like a haunted place with around a hundred cats.
There used to be another woman living with her. She died last year with 102 years old.
I've tried approaching Conceição, but she's very suspicious. It was through the cats that I was able to gain some trust. There's an older cat called Toco which first allowed me to pet him. After this, some of the other animals became friendly. And so did she!
Now we stop to chat every time we meet on the streets of the neighborhood, I was even envited in once, just to find out how scarcely she lives.
We are slowly building a friendship, I've offered help in case she needs anything, she gives me her wisdom. She's not crazy at all! Quite the opposite, she knows a lot about the old neighbors and is an impressive observer, she has some very good advice on animal natural care, she has many stories to tell. Yesterday, for instance, I found out that the 102-year-old woman used to be a hooker, and that's why she ended life far from any familiy member.
