88-year-old mother

She turned 88 last friday. I called her during the week, and she was in a really bad mood, just like a teenager who had been frustrated. I knew she was anxious, believing few people would remember her birthday and give a call.
I arrived at her place early so she wouldn't complain I was there just out of obligation. We chatted a lot and I'm suspicious she's having an affair with the newstand guy. She boasted about all the people who had phoned to wish good health.
At the door, saying goodbye, I said she's still a very beautiful woman, but I had to insist because she saught confirmation "no, my eyes have lost their shine!". 88. She turned 88.
