I've just renovated my garden by expanding it. I used to have a guesthouse at the back of my lot which has been demolished to make room for an orchard. Some people called me a fool because space in São Paulo is very expensive, and it'd be more sensible if I tapped that house for earning rent money.
Fact is I tried registering on airbnb, but I didn't like the experience. I have three dogs, they had to stay indoors when there was some guest, they suffered, I had to clean the house everyday... annoyance. Now I have a place to do my stretching exercises, feed birds, calm down when gardening, a pleasant surrounding to read.
I'm very proud of my garden design, which I would say is close to an English Garden: no clear design, the idea it was grown randomly. Color contrast and size have guided me. The process was a delight: researching species, going to the local market, planting, observing, imagining, replanting.
I have some trees: lemon, pitanga (a native fruit), pomegranate, laurel, guava, banana, passion-fruit. My roses loved the place I chose for them, mint is taking over the pathway, plants I believed to have died are reborn.
It's not ready yet. I think it will never be!
