Grammar
There are many ways to compare things in Tagalog, so here is the first of two lessons that cover the high frequency ones. Most of the vocabulary items introduced here are adjectives or parts of adjectives, so you may want to review the Adjective Lesson.
Same or Equal
Ex: Kasing-alat ng pizza ang adobo.

= The adobo is as salty as the pizza.

A is as adjective as B is formed as <kasing+root, B, A> where A takes ang-form and B takes ng-form
Ex: Magkasingalat ang adobo at pizza.

= The adobo and pizza are equally salty.

A and B are equally adjective is formed as <adjective, A at B> where A at B takes ang-form
These are adjectives which are formed by kasing/magkasing + root
If the root starts with d, l, r, s or t use kasin/magkasin. If it starts with b/p, use kasim/magkasim. Otherwise, use kasing/magkasing.
Like or Similar to
Ex: Matalino ang pusa tulad/gaya ng aso.

Ex: Parehong matalino ang aso at pusa.

Note About Negation
To negate parang sentences, change it to hindi gaya, e.g. Hindi gaya ng lalaki ang babae. = The girl isn’t like the boy.
Put hindi after pareho to negate, e.g. Parehong hindi matalino ang aso at pusa. = The cat and dog aren’t both smart.
Put hindi before the other comparatives to negate, e.g. Hindi kasing-alat ng pizza ang adobo. = The adobo is not as salty as the pizza.
In all negations, hindi is the enclitic magnate.
