Dear Prof. Dr Stone,
with regard to the e-mail you send me last week, I spent some time finding data about the issue 'sniffer dogs'. The project is interesting since it addresses some chemistry and forensic aspects, and includes procedures whose aim is to answer questions that previous studies had not been considered, but I would like to emphasize two points that might expose the schedule that we do.
First, the partnership with the scientific police. I know CSIs were excited about the project when they searched you for advice, but in pandemic time, is not it endangers the experimental procedures in the lab since we depend on them for sample donations? Another question is about the collaboration with the professors at University XYX. Despite the pandemic, we need to use the advanced equipments available only in that university and I would want to learn how to handle them. Will this goal be possible?
In addition to these considerations, most of the scientific papers about cadaver dogs and forensic chemistry were published in journals that have had a low impact factor. This is one of the reasons I thought to change my research field to other. Just three or four were issued in excellent journals. Although analytical chemistry is involved in the project, the potential results are enough to be printed in journals whose focus is not forensic science?
These are my major concerns at the moment. The exclusive dedication for doctoral research lasts four years, then I would like to discuss all the details before my definitive application for PhD scholarship. If you prefer, we could do an online meeting.
Kind regards,
My name.
