On the one hand, there are two reasons why people say we are more dependent on each other now. Firstly, in order to have a basic quality of life, such as shelter, people always need support from their families. This is because the cost of living has increased so dramatically compared to the cost of living a few decades ago. Young adults, for example, have to rely on their parents for financial help when renting a flat or buying a house. Housing prices are higher than ever, and it would be impossible for many young people to pay a deposit and a mortgage on their own. Secondly, individuals want a better quality of life for their families, but in order to achieve such purpose, they need a job, which always takes up most of their time every day, to make a great deal of money to provide their families with a comfortable lifestyle, which means they don’t have much time to look after their families and homes so they need helping hands to take such good care of their families. This means that both parents usually need to work full-time, and they need support from grandparents and babysitters for childcare.
