Double Duty Consonants - Final and Initial Simultaneously
Some consonants may act as both the final consonant of one syllable and the initial consonant of the next syllable. I call these double duty consonants. I’m going to break them into two groups to make them easier to deal with. The first group is ล, จ, ศ, ษ, ส and ช:

Notice that the double duty consonant is pronounced twice. If you didn’t know this, you might pronounce the word quite differently. For example, if you didn’t know that ผลไม้ had a double duty ล, you would guess that it’s pronounced ผล-ไม้ instead of ผล-ละ-ไม้. On the other hand, if you are already good at guessing where silent อะ is, knowing about the double duty consonant may not change the pronunciation much. For example, if you guessed that พิจารณา was pronounced พิ-จา-ระ-ณา, that sounds almost exactly the same as พิจ-จา-ระ-ณา.

The diacritic ◌์ (การันต์ or ทัณฑฆาต) silences, at a minimum, the consonant under it, and sometimes silences the entire consonant cluster. This is done to account for endings of loan words that aren’t easily pronounced in Thai:

Notice in “bar” only one consonant is silenced (ร์), in “moon” two consonants are silenced (ทร์) and in “king” two consonants and a vowel are silenced (ริย์). You will need to memorize how much is silenced.
Silent Vowels on Final Consonants – ติ, ตุ, มิ, ฒิ, ดิ, รุ
If you see a word that ends ติ, most of the time ต is a final consonant and อิ isn’t pronounced. For example, ญาติ (kin) is pronounced ญาต. There are exceptions to this. For example, สติ (consciousness) is pronounced สะ-ติ. This can happen with ติ, ตุ, มิ, ฒิ, ดิ and รุ:

Notice that there are exceptions (non-silent vowel pronunciations) for ติ, ตุ, มิ and ฒิ but not for ดิ or รุ, which are very rare word endings. Sometimes when these one syllable words are parts of multi syllable words, it can “wake up” the vowel. For example, ภูมิ is pronounced ภูม, but ภูมิศาสตร์ is pronounced ภูม-มิ-ศาส.
