Hello language learners! I'm a creative online teacher with four years of experience and a TEFL certification. My classes are different for every student, because everybody's language journey is unique!
We can do whatever you want in class. Normally I use conversation, reading, role plays, games, videos, and music. I also teach vocabulary and phonics. Language learning should be fun and interesting, and I hope I can help you on this journey!
A little about me: I'm a musician, a writer, and an artist. I also love cooking, dancing, and exercise. Although I am from the United States, sometimes I live in Brazil. I am fluent in Brazilian Portuguese. I can also can also understand Spanish and some French.
About my language learning: I never really took Portuguese classes. Instead, I learned Portuguese by reading the news, watching videos, making friends, and falling in love. Eventually I became fluent and even got my master's degree at a Brazilian university! I believe the best way to learn a language is to make it part of our everyday life.
The kind of students I'm looking for:
I love working with all students, but especially students who study outside of class!
How my background prepares me to teach:
I am a native English speaker and have always felt comfortable in my native language. I also am fluent in Brazilian Portuguese, which I learned independently. My experience with being bilingual and self-taught makes me a better teacher, because I understand the language learning process. My years living in Brazil also taught me the types of challenges we face in everyday life when speaking/learning a second language. I also have a 168-hour Qualifi Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from The TEFL Academy. The certification helped me choose efficient and fun English learning methods for the classroom. Finally, my four years of experience as an online English teacher mean I have a lot of tools, games, and resources to use in my classes.
Teaching methods or materials that I typically use during my lessons:
Short videos can be really fun and useful! I choose videos based on student interests and needs. We often do reading, listening, and games in my classes. Another tool I often use is role plays. A role play is when we each pretend to be somebody and practice a situation. For example, you pretend to be a hotel guest and I pretend to be the hotel employee. Every class is different and I am always trying new things!
Is there anything you should have or should do in advance:
No need! However, if you have something specific you want to practice, please send me a message before class!
