Best novel ever. Literally one of a kind. I say literally because it's the only story about stories I'm aware of. Amazing characters, world building and mind-blowing plot twists. It makes you cry.

You might try Malazan Book of the Fallen, a 10-book fantasy series famous for its world-building. The first book can be frustrating/confusing at times, due to the introduction of so many new characters, but if you soldier through it without worrying too much about your lack of knowledge, you'll probably get hooked and be ready for the second book. My favorite series by far.
