What enhances our learning of foreign words?

Hello what do you guys think is the best way to memorize foreign language words. Should we memorize them with contextualization or in their literary form? I find contextualization the best source of learning.

I think it's better with contextualization because in that sense you can really understand the various meanings. That is why watching movies with subtitles in English helps so much.
