Did you download malware through Google Play?

This just sucks. I generally trust most apps from Google Store thinking they'd filter stuff like this. Sigh. I sometimes get into moods of trying a bunch of different apps when I have nothing to do so I'm glad I dodged this one.

Thanks, as you said I have always thought these apps go thru some kind of filter for this kind of stuff.

This is awful. I generally only install apps that have had several million downloads already, or beta apps from publishers I know. But even this would give me pause. o_o

I tend to just download from trusted publishers but test apps from indie publishers too. The number of access each app sometimes ask for is just insane though.
