Can a deaf person learn languages?

Hi 

Is this possible? Also are there sign languages in other foreign languages and not English?

Hi, this is such an interesting question I thought sign language was universal, but I Google it an it appears that there are many kinds of sign languages around the world.

Hmm, I don't have an expert opinion on this, but aren't some deaf people capable of lip reading, and reproducing sounds, i.e. speaking in a language?

So are you guys saying there's sign language in different languages?

I haven't search in the google, but to answer your 2nd question, I believe and in my opinion there are sign languages in other countries considering the fact that deaf people are present around the world. Sign language is their only way of communicating so it's possible for them to have their own.

This is truly interesting. Im fascinated to see that it is possible for them to learn other languages. I never even thought twice about this question. Thanks for all the info!

I thought there's just one universal with jsut some terms and stuff like that varying

Yeah, I think. My aunt is deaf and because she learned ASL, she's not familiar with a lot of Tagalog words. I think there are official sign languages for other languaes too. (goes off to Google)
