Emoji button off-screen above and box hiding portion of text.
This is a minor cosmetic thing.
When I'm writing a post on the desktop site and want to insert an emoji I click on the emoji button and the box pops up. To hide it again I have to click the emoji button again. It's not a big deal having it there but sometimes if the post I'm writing is quite long then I have to actually scroll up my screen to find the button to click to hide the box. This wouldn't be an issue at all except the box sometimes blocks some of the text in my post as you can see in the screenshot below. Perhaps a little 'x' or clicking outside the box could be implemented to hide it?

That is interesting and I'm not hugely surprised that black text on a white background is easiest to read but there must surely be something to be said for not staring at a bright screen in a dark room?! Or is it purely anecdotal that it strains the eyes?

This is a great idea. I prefer to use night mode on my phone especially because I'm usually in bed! I believe it uses less energy for the screen to display black too so it's environmentally sound!

Yep, The Dark Knight was great. I loved Interstellar by Christopher Nolan too, although I didn't think Dunkirk was as good as some of his other stuff. I love Wes Anderson films too, they're so quirky!
I'm a very slow starter!! The first thing I do is drink a couple of glasses of water. Then I usually shower and make breakfast and read the news. I prefer silence in the morning... so no TV yet! haha.

Great question! For me I suppose it's down to each person how long it takes to feel like you're living there. I've stayed and worked in dozens of cities and countries but only felt like I was actually at home and living in a few of them.
I lived in Ireland for most of my life, but I previously lived in the UK for a few years and now I live in the United States. I've been to lots of other countries though... including your home nation Elso! I went there for a wedding last year and it was absolutely beautiful.

On the forum home screen it is difficult to see the actual topics of each forum because of screen squeeze. The profile info/wallet takes up a good deal of space. I've attached a screenshot to illustrate but basically I find it hard to know what the topic of each post actually is (and if it's therefore relevant to me) until I click into it - unless the topic is one or two words only.

My father is learning Spanish and has taken to using 'normalamente' in place of 'normally' even when speaking English. I figured he just made up a Spanish sounding version but this makes me think there was method to his madness!
This is very interesting, thanks for sharing. What is the source? The spelling indicates it's perhaps from the US and some of the pronunciations do too. I grew up learning to pronounce some of these words differently which I've always thought is so fascinating... the nuances in one language across the world.

I've heard that the Spanish spoken in South America is different from that spoken in Spain. And similarly the French spoken in Canada can differ slightly from that in France. Does anyone have experience with this? Are the differences even noticeable or is just superficial things like slang and parlance? How does one decide what "version" of a language to learn?
I noticed another really minor bug. When you're viewing someone's profile, under the "Name" and "Friend/Message" lines is the "Learner" line. If someone doesn't fill in their city when filling out their profile info a comma appears where there should be none.
Example: If I didn't specify that I'm from Dublin, my profile would read: Learner. From , Ireland.
Attached some screenshots to illustrate. I assume the code is written to assume all fields were fully filled when the person was signing up.

Yeah, refreshing works. I don't actually think it's particularly important to know exact post counts but I noticed the anomaly too.
I noticed a few things while I was signing up. Not sure you'd call them bugs but possibly just lower functionality/cosmetics.
- When adding tags, some languages are not capitalized. i.e.: drop down menu lists "spanish" and "french" instead of Spanish/French.
- The "Save" button on the Basic Info, Profile, and Language & Communication pages are three different images. Lacks continuity.
- When selecting languages, I hit 's' on my keyboard to jump to Spanish, but it remains on "Afrikaans" because that has an 's' in it. Likewise if I hot the 'f' key to jump to French, it would stop at "Afrikaans" again!
I've noticed something similar. I posted last night and my stats said 0 posts, 0 likes. A minute later I returned to read a reply and the stats were correct. See below for images.

I'd be especially interested in hearing people's perspective on this where they didn't originally share a native language with their partner.
Communication is VITAL! Especially long distance... I've done it before and it's very hard but clear communication is so important.
I've heard it suggested that it's also a good idea to read books aimed at young people, like Harry Potter, when learning a new language. I think this is because they use simple language, etc. Plus it's more fun than studying! :)

A place to report cosmetic issues or make suggestions.
While I have absolutely no training in early childhood education my gut tells me that kids must surely have the better capacity for learning languages. 'm sure I've read as much too. It occurs to me that perhaps our knowledge of our native language and its structures and rules can almost act like a barrier to learning. What I mean by that is that we may sometimes try to make the new language conform to our notion of proper grammar, etc. Like a child trying to hammer a square peg into a round hole!

Honestly I have only ever felt truly fluent in one language other than English and that was Irish. I think the moment I felt fluent was when I was speaking it regularly and then suddenly someone spoke to me in English and the response just came out of my mouth in Irish. It feels fluent to me when you don't have to translate first to your native language in your mind, you just comprehend. I don't know... it is a very difficult concept to describe! Ha

This is a really interesting approach. When I think about my most recent trip to France I realise I probably used this approach as the listener many times. I could understand enough words from the sentence to be able to figure out what the speaker was saying or asking. I'll have to investigate this more!
I agree that people should make an effort to learn at least a few phrases in the local language and should always know how to say please, thank you, and sorry. I would always try to learn in the local language how to ask if the person speaks a language I know (English usually). But I also don't agree with anyone who gets angry at people who don't know the local language, I never understood this sentiment.
I agree with Jade too, I think it's best to ask the learner in advance how they wish to be corrected. If the other participant in the conversation can understand what the learner is saying I think it can be affirming for a learner to continue with the conversation uninterrupted and gain confidence that way. With perhaps just the most important errors pointed out afterwards.
This is the first time I've ventured into online learning for languages but I have taken some classroom lessons before and always found correction to be best when it encourages the learner to figure out for themselves what the error was and think about how they could construct the sentence better.
