Learning Chinese - Mandarin, French, Japanese, Korean, Swahili, Chinese - Cantonese

Why is it that I've been learning Cantonese for so much longer and yet find Mandarin so much easier to understand? :-<

I've never tried Cantonese, so I don't know the answer.

Learning Italian every day!

It just feels like they speak more slowly and more clearly so I can pick up individual words and tell them apart very easily. Could be my imagination.

Nope, it wasn't my imagination. I went back and listened to the Cantonese conversations. Not only do they speak faster but they also pronounce things a lot less clearly than what I'd expect, maybe because of the "lazy sound" phenomenon.

...I still like Cantonese more, though.
