Thank you for sharing! I briefly checked the site and tried Japanese. 

Currently, it only has the "practice with text" with one literary available to listen. I like the option to choose "slow speed" when listening. Though I would have preferred if the Japanese text will automatically appear like as a subtitle so I could easily follow along. 

Did a quick search and found this example- referring to my point above about the buffalo..

Though not entirely the same, but similar when it comes to using the same "word" (or syllable) in the entire sentence.

"Baba?" Baba.

"Bababa ba?" Bababa.

Now, we're all like minions talking.  

So interesting! First, I didn't know about the ampersand being part of the alphabet before and was considered a letter. I just thought it was a "and" character.

Second, the buffalo.. I think there is something similar with that in our Filipino language. I'll share it here when I remember.

Saturday's so-so. Trying to catch up with some online work for this week since I missed my work days since Monday because we had to bring my baby to the hospital. She was admitted for 7 days and we just got home yesterday. Gaaad, I didn't realize how expensive medical bills and doctors' fees are these days. But so glad, she's fine now.. so back to work!

When there are like 5 or more replies to 5 different threads, that's overwhelming for me. And if I don't have any value to add or can't keep the conversation going, I just don't reply anymore. 

Also sometimes, I prefer to just silently read what's going on. I'm a silent reader in many of the online groups and communities I'm part of. I don't engage much but I join for the support/learning it offers. Maybe many are like that too.

Without learning, you become stagnant. And it goes with everything from learning a language, a skill, an academic subject, to learning from our experiences and mistakes.

People generally feel different if it's a child doing something -from having great talents, amazing skills, to even those funny clips where they are simply being kids. I guess many of us are just naturally attracted to their cuteness. :D

This might not be completely the same but kinda related, I found some Youtube music that (as some people claim) encourages learning - or maybe improvement in learning. I forgot the actual term but they said it was scientifically proven.

wetted - I always thought it's wet for past tense.. though when I searched, I also found wetted. Now I'm curious, when do you actually use which one? Is there any rule? This is something new for me.

I like acoustic pop, alternative, punk rock, rnb. Though most depends on my mood and what I'm currently working on.

I'm not learning multiple languages yet (but interested in many different ones) but the easy one for me is Spanish (since my native is Filipino). The hardest that I want to learn is French. I like listening to lessons (whether it's learning a language or a different topic) and for me, it's pretty challenging to understand French.

I never heard of "parentese" before but I think this is true! As a parent, I made sure that I didn't "baby talk" to my kids when they were younger. I always spoke to them in complete sentences (even when I know they might not understand me), though in a slower pace, and I constantly repeated what I said especially when I was teaching them something like giving directions. And true enough, my two children were pretty advance speakers when they were young. Both of them were able to communicate clearly at age 2 compared to their peers. (They're 8 & 5 now and are very talkative! haha).

They did. :) But you need proof that you'll be using the language for work before you get enrolled. They had Korean and Japanese. Not sure if they still have Japanese though.

Right. I actually read more about it when you posted this and learned that it's more targetted to those who will be working outside the country. Still, it's a huge help!

This is funny to admit but I often get confused with the spelling of some common words like vacuum (vaccuum, vaccum), accommodation (accomodation), customer (costumer), and many more! hahaha

 I usually write them out and see if they look weird or not and that's how I determine which is right. Lol

I didn't know that TESDA offers free foreign language lessons and used to include Korean on the list. Good to know!

I always prefer to read in English. This might be strange to some but I have a hard time reading in Tagalog and Bisaya (Cebuano) - two of my native languages.

I'm a big fan of motivational quotes as they definitely help me stay focused, and one of my favorite authors/motivational speakers to quote is Zig Ziglar.

This first one is so true for me! haha I tend to read at least one quote daily.

Not Language related but mine includes people who walk sooo slow (they're usually on their phone) in the middle of a busy street/corner/corrider/alley/pedestrian, aisle,etc.. and those that suddenly stop (while walking) without taking consideration/not minding the people behind them. Whenever this happens, I'd tell the person "EXCUSE MEEE" in a loud, sarcastic tone. Lol

Funny how my intial reaction was "oh, this is easy" and when I got to the next page I was like "WHAT IS THIS???!!" Hahaha

Mine was 16900. That was tough hahaha

I think many of us (if not all) will go through this stage when learning a new language. And I think it's even natural like in the case of young kids when they completely understand what someone is trying to say but they can't respond very well yet. :) So practice and more exposure (actually conversing) will fill the gap faster I think. :)

When the initial excitement of learning a new language begins to fade, it can be hard to stick with it. 

You’ll learn way more if you spend 30 minutes studying everyday rather than say, 8 hours once a week.

My quick takeaway on this is to find an end goal (instead of just "randomly picking languages") and try to really be consistent!

I had no idea that the level "names" were related to something - and I had to google what LOTR meant. LOL (I should probably just go back to my cage. Haha)

Anyway, I don't have any good suggestions now but I want to say that I also like the "out of the ordinary" label. Will surely vote when there are more options. :)

I do! Always does but not in a grand fashion way! Just a simple dinner with my family. Though I'm already in my late 20s, I still get excited when I have my birthday cake. Haha But with my kids now, I'm more excited for them because they get so happy whenever we celebrate birthdays.

I used to write down new words everyday. It was definitely helpful! These days, I rely on videos and audio lessons.

I'd say leave them alone. The tribe had made it clear that they don't want outsiders coming to their island. If we put it in simple terms, they're just like a family living their own lives who don't want to be bothered in their own homes.

I'm interested in learning French but I haven't really started studying yet (other than learning basic greetings and numbers) because I find reading and pronunciation very challenging. Those are my biggest obstacles.

I started with listening to podcasts before then taking basic self-study courses. For listening practice, I used to do it every morning, usually on my way to work but I wasn't able to keep up. Personally, I don't think I'm good at intentionally keeping a routine. lol

I don't think so if it doesn't directly relate to the course/major one is studying- like what Leo stated as an example. Unless, if that student plans to pursue his/her studies in a foreign country.

For me, the easiest way to avoid confusion is to read the word and determine if it produces a consonant or vowel sound. Vowel sound - an; Consonant sound -a. :)

Back when I was an English tutor, we used picture books for early learners (elementary students). For adults (who prefer daily conversation), we refer to news sites and TED videos to discuss interesting topics and learn new vocabulary.

As with my kids, Youtube videos and movies have a high influence in their speaking abilities since we don't really speak English at home.
