Old wives tales

Which old wives tales or traditional folk stories do you still believe?

For me, I never let my kids sleep with wet hair or let them stay cold so they don't catch a cold.

I also believe that if you spot a green cricket it means good luck or good news.

I don't celebrate any birthday earlier, I don't even know why but is a tradition I learned and I haven't stop doing it. Also I don't make important decisions or any procedure close to my birthday.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. While it may not literally stop you from getting sick, eating fruits daily has excellent benefits.

Black cat means Bad Luck.

But I love cats!! And I know they don't bring bad luck. I even own a black cat right now named TimTim and I love him dearly

I hope people would stop hating black cats.

We believe that if we eat in the dream,it's bad luck and you might be Bewitched. So the remedy some say is to eat exactly what you ate in the dream as soon as you wake up

This one is not exactly a tale, it's more like a thing we do. We "knock on wood" when we say something we wouldn't like to happen. Like "what if she tripped and fall" *knock on wood*

Not to cut your nails at night

Not to take a bath on Tuesday and Friday

- for reasons that I do not know but I already stopped believing it since I was 10.

I think that is true, because it has happened to me.

So some people actually would not take a bath those days? That is crazy!

My parents do this. There's even an old old song that goes something like "I guess I better knock on wood" interesting!

Countless to mention. Before, I used to believe most of them but now, I really don't. lol Except about eating right before bed. I could say that it's true, lol because it has a scientific explanation.

Indeed. Our elders usually say not to cut nails at night or else someone in the family or relatives will die. Haha. I started not to believe this when I got my babies. Since its difficult to cut their nails when they are awake, I have no choice but to cut it when they are asleep. Thanks God nothing morbid happened. I have been doing that since I gave birth to my eldest, and now she's 3 years old.
